I first encounter this word when I was lurking at 9gag.com.
Lucid Dreaming according to Wikipedia:
A lucid dream is any dream in which one is aware that one is dreaming. The term was coined by the Dutch psychiatrist and writer Frederik (Willem) van Eeden (1860–1932).[1] In a lucid dream, the dreamer may be able to exert some degree of control over their participation within the dream or be able to manipulate their imaginary experiences in the dream environment.[2] Lucid dreams can be realistic and vivid.[3] It is shown that there are higher amounts of beta-1 frequency band (13–19 Hz) experienced by lucid dreamers, hence there is an increased amount of activity in the parietal lobes making lucid dreaming a conscious process.[4]
On my 21 year of existence, I experienced Lucid Dreaming thrice. First one when I was in highschool, the second one was on my college days, and the current one was last year. I did't know that what I experienced was called as Lucid Dreaming because for me, it was one of the scariest experience I ever had. Though I know many people want to experience this, some I read wanted to feel what an OBE (Out of Body Experience) is, and might argue with me that it depends on what you will think etc etc. But for someone who already experienced it unknowingly, I wouldn't want to do it ever again.
I remember that those three instances, I actually felt that I am paralyze. I can't move my arms nor my legs. All I can do is shout on my mind but I know no one hears me. Actually, my first Lucid Dream is the main reason why I don't like rats. I was aware when I dreamed that are slowly going to my arms and walking directly to my face. Recalling that now gives me chills. Being in Lucid Dream make you feel that you are slowly dying, and no one can save you aside from your self.
Those three experience's I had leave me sleepless for a day because I am afraid that it will happen again. I remember asking my mom if I can sleep with hear due to my fear.
I hope I won't experience any lucid dream again, it's quite a scary experience for me.
For those who wanted to try it, Good Luck.
